CommBank Matildas goalkeeper Chloe Lincoln expressed her commitment to the team’s growth and development following a tough loss to Panama in their first match of a two-game series held in Bunbury. Despite the defeat, Lincoln emphasized the importance of adhering to their process under Head Coach Joe Montemurro’s guidance.
Lincoln made her second senior national team appearance after stepping in during the second half due to an injury to Teagan Micah. “At the end of the day, we know this is going to be a process, and Joe has a vision for us,” she stated. She acknowledged Panama’s strong performance, noting their physicality that hindered the Australian team’s momentum.
For the 20-year-old Lincoln, any chance to play for the national team is cherished. “You relish any opportunity to get on the pitch. I’m so grateful. I just want to keep learning and making the most of these opportunities,” she said, underscoring her eagerness to absorb everything from her experience with Montemurro.
Lincoln, who hails from the regional town of Armidale in New South Wales, also highlighted the significance of taking the game to regional communities like Bunbury. “It’s really cool when we get to go out to some more regional communities,” she remarked, appreciating the turnout despite unfavorable weather conditions.
Looking ahead to the second match against Panama scheduled for Tuesday in Perth, Lincoln confirmed that the team would analyze their performance to improve upon their shortcomings and aim for a better result. “We’ll review this game, take the lessons, and hopefully turn it around,” she said, reiterating the commitment to their process and Montemurro’s vision.
