A rapidly spreading wildfire in Burlington County, New Jersey, has expanded to 3,250 acres and is currently 30% contained. The blaze, known as the “Mines Spung Wildfire,” is situated near the Carranza Memorial Historic Site within Wharton State Forest, specifically in Shamong Township.

As of Friday night, response teams, including crews from the New Jersey Forest Fire Service, are actively working to suppress the flames, although five structures in the vicinity are reported to be under threat. In precautionary measures, the Phillip M. Costello Preparatory Academy and the Lower Forge Campground have been evacuated to ensure the safety of residents and visitors.

Due to the wildfire, several roads and trails have been closed, including:

– The Batona Trail from Coranza Road to Bulldozer Road
– Tuckerton Road from Carranza Road to Washington Turnpike
– Carranza Road from Forked Neck Road to Tuckerton Road
– Bulldozer Road
– Hampton Road

The first report of the fire was noted from a private aircraft flying over the area early Friday morning, but the cause of the blaze is still under investigation. Officials have also issued a reminder to the public to refrain from flying drones in the area, as it can hinder firefighting efforts.

This incident serves as a reminder of the challenges posed by wildfires and the importance of being prepared and informed in fire-prone areas. The community’s response and cooperation will play a crucial role in managing the situation effectively. As firefighters continue their efforts, there is hope that with favorable weather and support from the public, containment will improve soon.
