BrucePac has announced a significant recall of nearly ten million pounds of ready-to-eat poultry and meat products due to listeria concerns, affecting items sold at Trader Joe’s and various other grocery stores.

The Food Safety Inspection Service (FSIS) initiated the recall on Tuesday, which encompasses 9,986,245 pounds of ready-to-eat products manufactured at BrucePac’s Oklahoma plant. The recall includes grilled chicken breast strips, chicken meals, pre-packaged salads, and sandwiches distributed to food service providers across the country.

This action was taken after listeria was detected in some poultry samples during routine checks by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The recall affects around 75 different meat and chicken products, with a complete list of item codes available from the FSIS.

The affected products were made between June 19 and October 8 and were sent to restaurants, food service vendors, and other outlets nationwide. These items carry best-by dates ranging from June 19, 2025, to October 8, 2025. Officials emphasized the importance of disposing of these items, as they may still be found in homes.

So far, there have been no reported illnesses connected to this recall. The impacted products include various frozen meals branded under H-E-B, as well as meals like HMS chicken alfredo and salads sold under the names “Fresh Express,” “Marketside,” and “Little Salad Bar.”

Additionally, at least three products affected by the recall are available at Trader Joe’s, specifically the Turkey Club Wrap, Lemon and Chicken Arugula Salad, and Tarragon Chicken Wrap.

Listeria infections can lead to symptoms such as fever, muscle aches, and fatigue, and may escalate to more severe issues like stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions. Symptoms can develop quickly or up to ten weeks after consuming contaminated food, posing significant risks to older adults, individuals with weakened immune systems, and pregnant women.

This recall follows a recent report of a 10th death linked to a separate massive listeria recall involving Boars Head deli meats, which has sickened at least 59 people across 19 states and resulted in the closure of a processing plant in Virginia.
