A significant recall of poultry and meat products from BrucePac has expanded, affecting nearly ten million pounds of ready-to-eat items due to listeria concerns. This recall includes popular products available at Trader Joe’s and other grocery retailers.

The recall was first announced by the Food Service Inspection Service (FSIS) on Tuesday. It involves approximately 9,986,245 pounds of ready-to-eat meat and poultry products from BrucePac’s facility in Oklahoma. The affected items include grilled chicken breast strips, various frozen meals, pre-packaged salads, and sandwiches distributed to restaurants and food service vendors across the country.

The FSIS reported that the recall was triggered when officials from the U.S. Department of Agriculture found listeria in poultry samples during routine inspections.

The recall encompasses around 75 different meat and chicken products, with detailed item codes available from the FSIS. These products were manufactured between June 19 and October 8 and have best-by dates extending from June 19, 2025, to October 8, 2025. Government officials expressed concerns that some of these products might still be on shelves or stored in refrigerators and freezers, urging consumers to dispose of them.

Currently, there are no confirmed cases of illness associated with this recall. Some of the impacted items include frozen meals marketed under the H-E-B brand, HMS chicken alfredo, and pre-made chicken salads sold under the “Fresh Express,” “Marketside,” and “Little Salad Bar” labels.

At least three recalled items were available at Trader Joe’s: the Turkey Club Wrap, Lemon and Chicken Arugula Salad, and the Tarragon Chicken Wrap.

Listeria infections can lead to fever, muscle aches, and fatigue. More severe symptoms may occur, including stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions. The symptoms can arise quickly or up to 10 weeks after consuming contaminated food, posing particular risks to elderly individuals, those with weakened immune systems, and pregnant women.

This recall follows a tragic report of a 10th death linked to a widespread listeria recall involving Boars Head deli meats, which has sickened at least 59 people in 19 states and led to the closure of a processing plant in Virginia.
