Massachusetts Braces for Monday Rain and Gusty Winds

Heavy rain and strong winds are anticipated in various regions of Massachusetts this Monday, with thunderstorms and lightning possible during the morning hours. The WBZ weather team has issued a Next Weather Alert ahead of what is expected to be an impactful start to the week.

Winds are forecasted to be strong early in the day, especially on Martha’s Vineyard where gusts may reach up to 45 mph. In Boston, gusts are expected to exceed 35 mph around noon. While these wind speeds are not deemed severe, it is advisable for residents to secure any loose items outside in preparation for the heavy downpours expected to roll in.

Rainfall will begin in Western Massachusetts between 6 AM and 7 AM, with the potential for thunderstorms accompanying the heavy showers. Although the rainfall totals will not be comparable to those from last week’s nor’easter, residents can expect an additional half inch to an inch of rain on Monday, with higher amounts likely during thunderstorms.

The line of heavy rain will progress eastward throughout the morning and should clear out by the evening commute, allowing for a drier afternoon. However, anticipated rain returns midweek on Wednesday, so residents are encouraged to stay informed and prepared. The WBZ Next Weather Team will continue to monitor and provide updates on both the Monday and midweek rain forecasts.

As the region braces for this latest weather event, there is a hope that the timely warnings will allow the community to manage the impacts effectively.
