A shift in weather patterns is set to transform the Eastern half of Maryland this Sunday, as rain transitions to snow overnight. Residents can expect snowfall accumulation between 1 to 3 inches, with the heaviest amounts anticipated in the Northeastern regions, particularly in Harford and Cecil counties.
A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for Baltimore, Howard, Carroll, Harford, and Cecil counties, effective from 4 AM to 6 PM on Sunday. As temperatures hover around the low 30s in the morning, they will only slightly warm up to the mid 30s by the afternoon. The snowfall is expected to taper off by Sunday evening, but residents should remain cautious as temperatures are projected to drop significantly overnight, leading to the formation of black ice.
Following the snowfall, the region is bracing for dangerously cold temperatures as Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Tuesday approach. Overnight lows may plunge into the teens, and wind chills could dip into the single digits, particularly in Northern and Western areas. Despite the chilly conditions, Monday’s high is forecasted to barely reach the mid 30s, with daytime highs on Tuesday sinking further into the mid 20s.
Looking ahead, temperatures are set to gradually warm by mid-week, potentially reaching near 40 degrees on Wednesday and the lower 40s on Thursday. However, as the week progresses, the region could see another round of wintry weather next weekend, keeping residents on their toes as they navigate the shifting conditions.
