Snow showers are set to persist overnight as a nor’easter moves up the coast, resulting in a Weather Alert Day for Maryland on Monday. Snow has been steadily falling across the state since Sunday afternoon, accumulating on grassy areas and some roadways, creating potentially hazardous conditions for drivers.
The Baltimore metro area is experiencing varied snowfall totals, with Cecil County reporting the highest amounts. In contrast, Baltimore City, Anne Arundel County, and Howard County have seen lesser accumulations. Various regions across Maryland have recorded significant snow totals, with Washington, Frederick, and Montgomery Counties showing 2 to 6 inches of accumulation.
As the snow continues to fall through the night, it is expected to range from light to moderate, with some areas experiencing isolated heavier bands of snow until Monday morning. By the afternoon, the snowfall is projected to diminish as temperatures rise into the 30s and 40s.
Winter storm and blizzard warnings are currently active for northern regions and the Eastern Shore, while a winter weather advisory is in effect around Baltimore, where an additional 1 to 3 inches of snow is anticipated. Overall, the Baltimore metro is expected to see total snow accumulations of 3 to 6 inches, with even higher totals likely in northeastern Maryland and along the Eastern Shore. The Washington D.C. area is forecasted to receive 2 to 4 inches of snow.
In addition to the snowfall, strong winds are expected tomorrow with gusts reaching up to 40 mph. High temperatures will linger in the upper 30s and low 40s, with Tuesday bringing chillier conditions, as highs are projected to drop to the mid-30s. Following this cold snap, temperatures are anticipated to return to more seasonal averages in the upper 40s and low 50s.
Residents are encouraged to stay safe and remain updated on changing weather conditions as the snow continues to impact travel and daily routines.
