As 2025 draws to a close, residents across Baltimore are experiencing a chilly and overcast New Year’s Eve, with temperatures hovering in the low to mid-30s. Gusty winds and occasional flurries are expected, particularly in areas north of I-70, but overall conditions for celebrations are looking favorable. By 11 p.m., temperatures will dip closer to 30 degrees, with a wind chill making it feel like it’s in the upper teens to 20s. While light flurries may occur, significant accumulation is not anticipated.
In the early hours of New Year’s Day, a robust cold front will sweep through Maryland, bringing with it scattered snow showers and gusty winds. These conditions are expected between 3 a.m. and 7 a.m., with the potential for brief bouts of heavy snow that could leave a light dusting in some locations. Winds may gust up to 35 MPH as the front moves through. Following the snow, skies will clear, yet temperatures will remain chilly, staying in the upper 20s to around 30 degrees throughout the day, with wind chills making it feel much colder.
Garrett County is under a Winter Storm Warning until 10 a.m. Thursday, where significant snowfall of 4 to 8 inches is anticipated, along with wind gusts reaching 50 MPH, drastically reducing visibility and posing travel hazards on Interstate 68. Wind chills in this area could drop to as low as -10 degrees.
Looking ahead, the cold weather is expected to persist into the weekend, with temperatures peaking in the mid to upper 30s during the afternoons. Weather experts are monitoring a storm system that is projected to move through the eastern United States. Currently, it appears that the system will stay to the south of Maryland, which would keep the forecast dry. However, any slight adjustment northward could bring wintry weather into the weekend plans, so residents should stay alert for updates.
As the new year begins, Marylanders are encouraged to prepare for the cold and potential winter weather while enjoying the season’s festivities safely.
