Mary Jo Young is making her return to “American Idol,” showcasing her journey of growth and determination. The 24-year-old Ohio native participated in the final night of auditions for this season, aiming for a redemption arc following her previous stint in Season 19, where she reached the Top 24.

Reflecting on her earlier experience, Young shared, “When it came to an end, it was a good kick the baby bird out of its nest, because I needed to go and grow.” Since then, she has dedicated herself to honing her musical abilities, touring and opening for prominent artists such as Alex Warren and Jessie Murph.

Young expressed her excitement and newfound confidence as she returned, stating, “I feel like a new person.” She emphasized the invaluable lessons learned during her time on the show, which she believes surpass those gained during any tour.

For her second audition, Young performed an original song titled “Don’t Call Me.” The judging panel, including Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie, and Carrie Underwood, praised her performance. Underwood appreciated her unique vocal tone and power, while Richie emphasized the importance of resilience in the music industry, noting, “It ain’t about singing. It’s about surviving.”

Bryan recognized Young’s transformation since her last appearance, commending her newfound confidence: “I’m glad to see your face again ‘cause I was a real big fan of yours.”

Young’s performance earned her three yeses and the coveted Golden Ticket to Hollywood Week. “This Golden Ticket shows me it’s always good to get back up and try again. I’m really proud of myself for it,” she remarked, celebrating the significance of her achievements.

“American Idol” airs Mondays on ABC, continuing to offer aspiring artists a platform for their dreams. Young’s return exemplifies a hopeful reminder that with perseverance and courage, setbacks can pave the way for future success.
