Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, and the ensemble cast of “Thunderbolts” showcased their thrilling performances in an exciting new look at Marvel’s upcoming film. This extended trailer premiered at the inaugural Brazil D23 fan event on Saturday, where David Harbour, who portrays Red Guardian, shared the trailer with the enthusiastic audience.
“Thunderbolts” closely resembles DC’s “Suicide Squad,” featuring a group of villains and antiheroes compelled to undertake perilous missions for the greater good. The film includes returning faces from the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Pugh reprises her role as Yelena Belova from “Black Widow,” while Stan returns as the Winter Soldier. Joining them are Harbour, Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Wyatt Russell as John Walker, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. The cast also includes Lewis Pullman, who portrays a mysterious character named Bob.
Adapted from Kurt Busiek’s comic series, “Thunderbolts” is directed by Jake Schreier and produced by Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige. The screenplay has contributions from Eric Pearson, creator Lee Sung Jin, and Joanna Calo, co-showrunner of the acclaimed series “The Bear.”
Pullman, in an interview with Variety, remarked on the secrecy surrounding his audition process, describing it as almost like a covert FBI operation. He shared that the experience was thrilling yet old-fashioned, as the director explained the story around a metaphorical campfire without providing a script to read.
Fans can look forward to “Thunderbolts,” slated for theatrical release on May 2, 2025. This film promises to deliver a refreshing blend of action, humor, and character depth as it explores the complexities of these antiheroes.
As anticipation builds, the film could offer a unique perspective on heroism and redemption within the Marvel Universe, setting the stage for an engaging addition to the franchise.
