Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, and the ensemble cast of Marvel’s upcoming film “Thunderbolts” showcased their skills in a newly unveiled extended trailer. This exclusive preview premiered at the inaugural Brazil D23 fan event, where David Harbour, portraying Red Guardian, revealed the trailer to an eager audience.
“Thunderbolts” serves as Marvel’s answer to DC’s “Suicide Squad,” featuring a group of antiheroes and villains who embark on perilous missions to benefit humanity. In addition to Pugh, who revisits her role of Yelena Belova from “Black Widow,” the impressive lineup includes Harbour, Stan as Winter Soldier, Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Wyatt Russell as John Walker, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. Lewis Pullman, known for his role in “Top Gun: Maverick,” joins the cast as a mysterious character named Bob.
Inspired by Kurt Busiek’s comic series, “Thunderbolts” is directed by Jake Schreier and produced by Kevin Feige. Executive producers include Louis D’Esposito, Brian Chapek, Jason Tamez, and Scarlett Johansson. The screenplay is crafted by Eric Pearson, alongside Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo.
Pullman shared insights about his secretive audition process for “Thunderbolts,” describing it as reminiscent of an FBI briefing. The experience was intense, involving strict confidentiality where audition materials were closely guarded and even shredded after use. He was only able to hear the story directly from director Jake Schreier, creating an intriguing and old-fashioned storytelling atmosphere.
“Thunderbolts” is set to hit theaters on May 2, 2025, further heightening anticipation for this unique addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
As we wait for its release, this film promises to deliver a fresh twist on superhero narratives, emphasizing teamwork among flawed characters, and offers audiences a chance to explore the complexities of redemption and motivations in the world of superhuman antics.
