Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, and the cast of “Thunderbolts” are showcasing their formidable talents in a newly released extended trailer for Marvel’s upcoming film. This trailer premiered during the inaugural Brazil D23 fan event, which took place on Saturday. David Harbour, who portrays Red Guardian, was present to unveil the exciting footage to attendees.

“Thunderbolts” can be seen as Marvel’s answer to DC’s “Suicide Squad,” featuring an ensemble of villains and antiheroes being compelled to carry out perilous missions for the greater good. The cast is packed with talent, including Pugh reprising her “Black Widow” role as Yelena Belova, Harbour, Stan as the Winter Soldier, Olga Kurylenko (Taskmaster from “Black Widow”), Hannah John-Kamen (Ghost from “Ant-Man and the Wasp”), Wyatt Russell (John Walker from “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier”), and Julia Louis-Dreyfus as the cunning Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. Lewis Pullman, known for his role in “Top Gun: Maverick,” plays a mysterious character named Bob.

“Thunderbolts” is based on the comic series created by Kurt Busiek and is directed by Jake Schreier, with Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige producing. The film’s executive producers include Louis D’Esposito, Brian Chapek, Jason Tamez, and Scarlett Johansson, while the screenplay is authored by Eric Pearson, alongside “Beef” creator Lee Sung Jin and co-showrunner of “The Bear” Joanna Calo.

Lewis Pullman shared insights about his highly confidential audition process for “Thunderbolts,” likening it to an FBI operation. He recalled the experience of test screening, stating, “It felt like I was going into the FBI or something,” emphasizing the extreme security measures in place, with shredders present to ensure confidentiality. Despite not being able to read any scripts, he appreciated the director’s personal storytelling approach, saying, “It was cool. It was kind of old fashioned in that sense.”

The film is set to hit theaters on May 2, 2025. With its dynamic cast and intriguing premise, “Thunderbolts” aims to bring fresh energy to the superhero genre, promising an action-packed adventure that fans can eagerly anticipate.

Overall, this upcoming Marvel film has the potential to redefine how audiences view antiheroes in cinema and offers a captivating storyline for a diverse cast to explore.
