Northwestern Wildcats basketball player Martinelli has made significant strides this season, joining an elite group of Big Ten players to achieve an impressive scoring and rebounding average. He is now among only four players in the last 30 years to average over 22 points and 6 rebounds per game, joining notable names such as Zach Edey and Luka Garza.

This season, Martinelli has shown remarkable consistency, achieving a 12-game streak of scoring over 20 points from December 6, 2025, to January 29, 2026. This streak stands as the third-longest ever recorded by a Big Ten player since the 1996-97 season, trailing only Garza and Edey. Throughout his career, Martinelli has reached double figures in scoring 69 times, with an impressive 52 of those in his last 54 games, including 40 games where he scored 20 or more points.

Martinelli’s performance this season has been record-setting for the Wildcats, as he has recorded 20 games with 20+ points, the highest for a Northwestern player since 2004. Additionally, his 11 games with 25+ points this season set a new benchmark for the program in the same timeframe. Martinelli’s 21 career games with 25+ points is also a record since 2004, making him a standout player in the Big Ten.

With 1,637 career points, Martinelli ranks eighth in Northwestern’s history. He needs just 47 more points to surpass Bryant McIntosh for seventh place. This season alone, he has accumulated 609 points, placing him fifth in Northwestern’s single-season scoring history, with the potential to climb even higher.

The Wildcats have also achieved milestones in team performance, with an average of just 8.6 turnovers per game, setting a program record. They rank second in program history with 17.1 assists per game and have demonstrated excellent control of the game, forcing opponents to commit 11.3 turnovers per game—ranking them seventh in the conference.

As they prepare to host Oregon on February 28, Northwestern enters with momentum from their recent victories, having won two consecutive Big Ten games. The Wildcats recently defeated Indiana 72-68, with Martinelli leading the charge with a game-high 28 points. As this final homestand kicks off, expectations are high for the team to continue their success and achieve further accolades in a promising season. The game will be an opportunity for fans and players alike to celebrate the progress made as they host the Ducks for the first time in program history.
