Marriott Bonvoy is revolutionizing travel planning with the introduction of Marriott Bonvoy Outdoors, a new platform designed to organize travel by activity rather than traditional destinations or accommodations. This platform caters to the increasing demand for vacations that incorporate outdoor experiences. According to recent data, over 82% of Marriott Bonvoy members are eager for trips that prioritize outdoor activities.
“We notice a growing interest in the freedom and adventure that the great outdoors offers, whether it’s a technology-free getaway, a family trip to a national park, or an extraordinary adventure,” said Peggy Roe, Executive Vice President and Chief Customer Officer at Marriott International. With the growing popularity of outdoor travel, Marriott Bonvoy’s initiative aims to integrate its services directly into nature.
Accessible online and via the Marriott Bonvoy app, the digital resource allows travelers to plan getaways centered around their interests, such as skiing, hiking, biking, surfing, diving, paddling, and fishing. Showcasing over 450 outdoor-centric hotels and 50,000 Homes & Villas properties, as well as curated tours and activities, this platform offers a wide array of options for the outdoor enthusiast. Actor and outdoor advocate Dylan Efron has partnered with Marriott to promote this initiative. Efron emphasizes the importance of engaging with the environment to truly explore and appreciate new destinations.
In conjunction with Marriott Bonvoy Outdoors, Marriott has introduced the Outdoor Collection, featuring nature-focused accommodations like the stylish Postcard Cabins. Located in scenic U.S. destinations, these Scandinavian-inspired retreats provide amenities such as firepits and kitchenettes, with direct access to hiking trails. Trailborn Hotels further enhance this collection by offering boutique stays near renowned outdoor sites like Yellowstone and the Grand Canyon. Future expansions may include unique lodging options such as ecolodges, yurts, or domes.
“Travelers are more inclined to embark on outdoor trips when modern comforts accompany the experience,” Roe explained. The Outdoor Collection satisfies this demand with thoughtfully designed accommodations near natural attractions, combined with the perks of Marriott Bonvoy loyalty points.
To commemorate the launch, Marriott is hosting the Drop Pin Challenge—a treasure hunt across 20 North American locations where participants can earn up to 10 million Bonvoy points. Each pin, worth 10,000 points, can be discovered by following online clues. Efron inaugurated the challenge by placing the first pin near Big Bear, California, highlighting the adventure-filled potential of these newly introduced accommodations.
This initiative not only elevates travel by offering unique outdoor experiences but also enhances the accessibility and appeal of such trips, making them more memorable and rewarding for Marriott Bonvoy members.
