Fourth of July celebrations have kicked off in Marquette, Michigan, with the return of Freedom Fest at Mattson Lower Harbor Park. The event runs from July 3 to July 4, operating from noon until 10 p.m. each day, offering a variety of activities for families and attendees of all ages.
Visitors can enjoy a diverse selection of food vendors, including the newly introduced Stoney Hills Sips & Sweets from Negaunee, which brings a delightful array of sweet treats. The festival also features kid-friendly activities, such as inflatables provided by Double Trouble and wood crafting opportunities with J and H Forest Farm. Throughout the day, guests will be entertained by live music performances.
Moreover, Freedom Fest serves as a fundraiser for the Marquette County Exchange Club, which has been instrumental in supporting local youth initiatives, contributing over $1 million to the community over the past 43 years. Co-chair Geno Angeli expressed gratitude for the support received from the community, acknowledging the vital role of volunteers in making the event possible.
Preparations are in full swing for the fireworks display scheduled for Thursday evening. Additionally, to create an inclusive atmosphere, a laser light show will be featured on Friday night at the Ore Dock, providing an alternative to traditional fireworks for individuals who may be sensitive to loud noises, such as veterans with PTSD.
This festive occasion not only fosters community spirit but also emphasizes the importance of inclusivity and support for one another, showcasing the vibrant culture of Marquette County.
