During last month’s Golden Globes, actor Mark Ruffalo voiced strong criticisms against former President Donald Trump and the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), reflecting on the tragic case of Renee Nicole Good, who lost her life due to ICE agents in Minnesota on January 7. Ruffalo expressed his discontent, stating, “I’m not feeling so great,” and underscored the gravity of the situation by declaring, “We have a woman, Renee Good, who was murdered last week.”
The Marvel star didn’t hold back in his condemnation, branding Trump’s ICE agents as “literal stormtroopers” and making severe allegations against the former president, labeling him variously a “convicted felon,” “convicted rapist,” and “pedophile.” Ruffalo emphasized the troubling implications if Trump’s moral compass is used as a guide for one of the world’s most powerful nations.
As expected, his comments stirred a backlash on social media, leading to baseless rumors suggesting that Disney had fired him. However, major news outlets have not reported on any such decision, indicating the rumors may be unfounded. During promotional activities for his new film, Crime 101, alongside co-stars Chris Hemsworth and Halle Berry, Ruffalo was directly asked about his employment status with Disney. He responded with a smile, revealing, “Not that I know of!” Hemsworth also dismissed the rumors, calling them “nonsense.”
Ruffalo reaffirmed his position within the Disney family, hinting at future projects and maintaining a positive relationship with the studio. While he confirmed his participation in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, his role in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday remains uncertain. Fans remain hopeful that he will reprise his iconic role as The Hulk in Avengers: Secret Wars, which is scheduled for release in December 2024.
Despite the challenges he faces due to his outspoken views on politics, it seems unlikely that Disney would sever ties with such a prominent actor, especially as many studios navigate their relationships with political figures. The Russo Brothers are set to direct both Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, with a screenplay crafted by Stephen McFeely and Michael Waldron, known for their previous work on the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The excitement builds as audiences anticipate these upcoming titles, scheduled for release on December 18, 2026, and December 17, 2027, respectively.
