Mariska Hargitay Launches Production Company and Personal Documentary Adventure

Mariska Hargitay, renowned for her role in “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” is embarking on an exciting new chapter in her career by launching a production company named Mighty Entertainment. Announced on May 28, this venture will encompass both scripted and unscripted projects, focused on narratives that foster connection through courage, curiosity, and compassion.

Mighty Entertainment will kick off with a deeply personal project for Hargitay—a documentary titled “My Mom Jayne,” which celebrates her mother, the iconic actress Jayne Mansfield. In a statement reflecting on her experience as a director, Hargitay emphasized the potent way personal stories can resonate universally, stating, “I’m thrilled to build this company with a powerful team dedicated to telling urgent, compelling, important stories.”

Having previously directed and executive produced episodes of “SVU,” Hargitay recently showcased “My Mom Jayne” at the Cannes Film Festival alongside her family. Her husband, Peter Hermann, has taken on the role of creative director for Mighty Entertainment, and will work closely with her on various projects.

The company’s vice president, Lauran Bromley, and head of documentary, Trish Adlesic, are both familiar collaborators, having worked with Hargitay on the Emmy-winning documentary “I Am Evidence,” which spotlighted the pressing issue of untested rape kits in the U.S. Hargitay expressed her ongoing commitment to amplifying underrepresented voices through this new company.

The inspiration for the company’s logo—a girl on a bicycle—came from an old photo of Hargitay herself, which reminded her of her beloved character, Capt. Olivia Benson. She noted, “I’m leaning forward, so determined and so clear, ‘I’ve got this. I’m handling it. I’m navigating it. I’m good.’”

Hargitay also shared a sentimental backstory about the name “Mighty,” recalling a moment from her 20s when legendary actor Jack Nicholson fondly referred to her as “Mighty,” a nickname she embraced.

Fans can look forward to the premiere of “My Mom Jayne” at the Tribeca Film Festival in June, with an airing on HBO scheduled for June 27. This venture marks a hopeful new direction for Hargitay, combining her passion for storytelling with a mission to make a meaningful impact.
