Mariners Call Up Top Lefty Prospect Brandyn Garcia for Major League Debut

The Seattle Mariners have made a notable roster move by selecting left-handed pitcher Brandyn Garcia from Triple-A Tacoma, while also optioning right-handed pitcher Juan Burgos back to the same team. Executive Vice President and General Manager of Baseball Operations, Justin Hollander, announced the updates confirming that the Mariners’ 40-man roster is now at capacity.

Brandyn Garcia, who is 25 years old, is set to make his Major League debut when he first takes the mound. His performance prior to this call-up has been impressive, featuring a record of 5-4, 5 saves, and a 3.51 ERA over 32 relief appearances shared between Double-A Arkansas and Triple-A Tacoma. He has accumulated 42 strikeouts against 17 walks over 33.1 innings.

Garcia is highly regarded in the franchise, being recognized as the top left-handed pitching prospect in the Mariners organization according to MLB Pipeline. Additionally, he ranks as the fourth overall pitching prospect after notable talents such as switch-pitcher Jurrangelo Cijntje and right-handers Ryan Sloan and Michael Morales. Overall, he is the 13th-rated prospect in the Mariners’ farm system.

In his minor league career spanning 68 appearances, including 25 starts, Garcia boasts an 11-7 record with a commendable 2.49 ERA and a striking 10.4 strikeouts-per-9 innings ratio. Drafted in the 11th round of the 2023 MLB First-Year Player Draft from Texas A&M University, Garcia previously played for Quinnipiac University in Connecticut.

On the flip side, Juan Burgos has seen limited action with the Mariners since his promotion to the majors, participating in four games and posting a 4.05 ERA. His earlier minor league performance this season has been notable as he recorded a 0.62 ERA across 22 appearances, reflecting his potential as a reliable arm in the bullpen.

This transition represents a key development for the Mariners as they look to bolster their pitching staff with promising talent. Fans will undoubtedly be excited to see Garcia in action in what is anticipated to be a significant step in his burgeoning career.
