Mariah Carey is mourning the loss of her mother and sister, who both passed away on the same day.
In a statement to CNN, Carey expressed her heartbreak, revealing that her mother, Patricia Carey, died recently, and her sister, Alison Carey, also lost her life that day. The cause of their deaths was not disclosed. Patricia was 87 years old, while Alison, who lived in Coxsackie, New York, was 63.
Mariah shared her gratitude for the time spent with her mother in her final days and thanked everyone for their support and respect for her privacy during this difficult time.
Patricia Carey was a trained opera singer from Juilliard and worked as a vocal coach. She was married to Mariah’s father, Alfred Roy, until their separation when Mariah was three. Alfred passed away in 2002.
In her memoir, “The Meaning of Mariah Carey,” she discussed the complexities of her relationship with her mother, acknowledging the challenges but expressing love and appreciation for her.
Mariah’s relationship with her sister, Alison, was reportedly strained, and there was a lawsuit filed by Alison against Mariah in 2021, claiming emotional distress from the memoir’s content. Official records indicate that Mariah did not respond legally to the lawsuit.
Mariah is one of three siblings, with her mother also having a son, Morgan Carey.
