Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi are set to star in Emerald Fennell’s eagerly awaited adaptation of Emily Brontë’s classic novel, “Wuthering Heights.” The two actors portray the tumultuous lovers Catherine and Heathcliff. In a recent interview, Robbie shared her tendency to become “co-dependent” with her co-stars, revealing that her bond with Elordi developed rapidly during filming.
Robbie, 35, explained her emotional connection to her fellow Australian actor. “I’m so codependent with people I work with and I love everyone so much. I never want a job to end,” she reflected. Elordi, 28, humorously noted that if given the opportunity to work alongside Robbie, one would want to stay close. “If you have the opportunity to share a film set with Margot Robbie, you’re going to make sure you’re within 5 to 10 meters at all times,” he said.
The chemistry between the two was palpable on set. Robbie recalled how Elordi would be lurking nearby while she filmed, much like Heathcliff’s intense presence in the story. “I started looking around to see where he was, and if he wasn’t watching, I felt quite lost, like a kid without their blanket,” she admitted.
Fennell added to the playful banter, joking that she had to ask Elordi to give Robbie some space. The camaraderie extended beyond their characters, as the cast engaged in a bit of nostalgia while filming in the scenic English countryside, creating a mystical atmosphere fitting for the passion of Brontë’s characters. Elordi expressed the profundity of the experience, feeling as if they were connecting with the spirits of Heathcliff and Catherine while watching the sunset.
“Wuthering Heights” also features performances from Shazad Latif, Hong Chau, Alison Oliver, Charlotte Mellington, and Owen Cooper. The film is co-produced by Robbie’s LuckyChap Entertainment, which has been behind successful projects like 2023’s “Barbie.” The adaptation is set to be released in theaters on February 13, 2024, promising an intense and emotive portrayal of this timeless love story.
