Marcus Stokes, a prominent quarterback from the University of West Florida (UWF), has officially declared his intention to enter the transfer portal, marking a pivotal shift in his college football journey. This decision follows an outstanding season, during which he led the Argonauts to a commendable 10-2 record and a semifinal spot in the NCAA Division II Super Region 2.
Stokes delivered a stellar performance throughout the season, amassing 3,297 passing yards, 30 touchdown passes alongside 13 interceptions. He also made significant contributions to the running game, collecting 367 rushing yards and scoring 10 touchdowns on the ground. His remarkable performance throughout the season earned him the accolade of Gulf South Conference Offensive Player of the Year, and he is currently nominated for the prestigious Harlon Hill Trophy, which recognizes the NCAA Division II Player of the Year.
Despite his impressive achievements, Stokes’ season concluded on a challenging note due to a head injury he sustained early in the fourth quarter of a tightly contested game against Newberry, where the Argonauts fell 24-17 on November 29. Prior to this setback, he showcased his talents over the previous season as well, throwing for 1,540 yards, recording 14 touchdowns, and eight interceptions while adding another 163 rushing yards and three touchdowns to his stats.
Stokes originally hails from Nease High School, graduating in 2023 as a three-star recruit and was ranked as the 33rd quarterback in the nation by 247 Sports Composite rankings. Initially, he committed to the University of Florida in June 2022, but his commitment was rescinded later that year due to a controversy involving a video in which he used a racial slur while singing along to a rap song.
With two years of eligibility left, Stokes is set to explore new opportunities at another institution, where he aims to leverage his past successes and continue to develop his skills as an athlete.
