Over the years, he has established himself as a prominent restaurateur with the opening of notable establishments like Red Rooster in 2010, Hav & Mar in 2022, and Metropolis in 2023. Additionally, Samuelsson has authored several cookbooks and memoirs and has made numerous appearances on the Food Network.

Now, Samuelsson is venturing into a new realm by launching a 32-piece home goods collection in collaboration with West Elm. This collection draws inspiration from his Ethiopian and Scandinavian heritage as well as his experiences living in New York City.

In an interview, Samuelsson reflected on the changes in dining culture since the COVID-19 pandemic, noting that while people have become better at cooking at home, their desire for an elevated dining experience emphasizing service has increased. He observed that diners now seek an atmosphere that fosters connection and a sense of community.

Samuelsson also highlighted the importance of ambiance in his restaurants, particularly at Red Rooster, where live music plays a crucial role in creating a vibrant community atmosphere. He stressed the importance of integrating the cultural elements of the surrounding neighborhoods into his restaurant concepts.

When discussing his new collaboration with West Elm, Samuelsson emphasized that creativity is a core part of his identity as a chef and artist. He has long engaged in painting and writing, and this venture aligns with his passion for design.

He expressed pride in the collaboration, particularly in how the collection incorporates bright woods inspired by his father’s fishing village in Sweden alongside prints reflecting African artistry. Ultimately, despite exploring various creative outlets, Samuelsson reaffirmed his enduring passion for cooking, which remains his focal point after a busy day.
