Recently, Samuelsson is venturing into a new area by launching a 32-piece home goods collection in collaboration with West Elm. This collection draws inspiration from his Ethiopian and Scandinavian heritage as well as his experiences living in New York City.

In a recent interview, Samuelsson discussed the evolving landscape of dining out post-COVID-19. He noted that the pandemic has improved the at-home dining experience, leading to a new generation of skilled home cooks. As a result, people now seek more from their restaurant experiences, including exceptional service and a vibrant atmosphere.

Regarding his restaurants, Samuelsson emphasizes the importance of community and ambiance. At Red Rooster, he integrates live music to enhance the dining experience and supports local musicians. His Chelsea restaurant, Hav & Mar, reflects the neighborhood’s artistic vibe by collaborating with local artists.

When creating the home goods collection, Samuelsson wanted to channel his creativity beyond cooking. He has been an artist and writer for years, and this project allowed him to collaborate with West Elm. He described the partnership as a rewarding journey, drawing from personal experiences in Sweden and incorporating elements from African culture into the designs.

Despite his diverse creative pursuits, Samuelsson remains passionate about cooking. He shares that, at the end of a long day, he finds solace in the kitchen, whether it’s shopping for ingredients, cooking for his family, or simply contemplating food.
