Marcus King Band’s Intimate Red Rocks Session: A Stripped-Back Journey

The Marcus King Band has recently shared a compelling performance from their “Trail Mix Session” at Red Rocks, adding a unique touch to their ongoing spring and summer tour. This session, filmed prior to King’s performance on May 10 at the iconic Colorado venue, showcased the band’s ability to deliver a stripped-back interpretation of their music, emphasizing their instrumental skills in an intimate setting.

Marcus King expressed his deep respect for Red Rocks, calling it a spiritual place. He noted, “Every time we come here, it’s a real honor to be a part of it. It felt really great to dig a little bit deeper and strip back even more with less production, and be one with the mountain.”

The set opened with “Honky Tonk Hell,” which was released just a day earlier and marked the bandleader’s first group recording since their 2018 album, *Carolina Confessions*. They continued by debuting a new, soulful track titled “On and On,” followed by a heartfelt cover of the Allman Brothers Band classic “Ramblin’ Man,” dedicated to the late Dickey Betts, showcasing their musical synergy through a captivating jam.

Reflecting on his musical heritage, King shared insights into his family’s influence on his craft. He emphasized the importance of creativity in upbringing, stating, “It’s really good to encourage your kids to be creative,” which has been an integral part of his life since childhood.

The Marcus King Band is set to continue their ambitious 2025 tour, which includes stops at prominent events like the CMA Fest in Nashville, a 15-date European tour, and their much-loved Marcus King Band Family Reunion Festival in Charleston, South Carolina, scheduled for August 23 and 24.

This blending of personal reflections and musical creativity not only highlights King’s talents but also resonates deeply with fans, fostering a connection that goes beyond mere performance. The band’s commitment to their roots and their dynamic touring schedule promise exciting times ahead for both the group and their followers.
