FC Barcelona has excitingly announced the “Marcha Culer” (Barça Walk), which will culminate at the historic Montserrat Abbey on Saturday, March 22. This event celebrates the club’s 125th anniversary and the 1,000th anniversary of the Benedictine monastery.
The Marcha Culer is inclusive and welcomes FC Barcelona members, supporters’ club members, and fans. Participants can choose between two route options: a longer distance of 47 kilometers starting from the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper and a shorter option of 6.5 kilometers that begins in Collbató.
The walk, which is non-competitive, will adhere to the guidelines set by the Federació d’Entitats Excursionistes de Catalunya (FEEC), with whom FC Barcelona has established a collaboration agreement. The event is made possible by the hard work of volunteers from FEEC-affiliated groups.
Registration for the Marcha Culer opens on February 5 for club members and supporters’ club members, followed by general public registration beginning on February 7. Fans interested in participating can do so through the club’s website.
The longer route will commence at midnight on March 22, passing through various municipalities, while the shorter route will kick off the following morning at 9:00 AM from Collbató. Along the route, there will be seven refreshment stations featuring support from local municipalities, ensuring participants remain hydrated and energized.
To ensure safety and organization, participants in the long walk must be at least 16 years old, and those in the short walk must be at least 12, with minors required to register under parental or guardian supervision. Registration fees for participation include a variety of amenities, such as an official Marcha Culer shirt and medical assistance.
The connection between FC Barcelona and Montserrat Abbey is deeply ingrained in Catalonia’s culture. Similar events in the past, including supporters’ gatherings and team cycling trips, have strengthened this bond. Furthermore, a significant twinning agreement was signed on December 16, 2024, which aims to foster their collaboration further.
In an effort to enhance the participant experience, the club will also offer a bus service to return to Monistrol de Montserrat for a fee, with adjusted schedules based on arrival times. Additionally, the players’ tunnel at Spotify Camp Nou will see the return of a chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Montserrat, aligning with the ongoing renovations and the Espai Barça project.
This event represents not just a celebration of sports but also a unifying occasion for fans and communities, allowing them to connect with the rich history of both FC Barcelona and Montserrat Abbey. It offers an enjoyable outdoor activity while commemorating significant milestones in Catalonia’s heritage.
