Kamikamica Perjury Case Heads to High Court for Stay Review

Manoa Kamikamica Faces Key Hearing in FICAC Case

Member of Parliament and former Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica is preparing for a critical hearing regarding his application for a permanent stay of proceedings, which will be reviewed in the Suva High Court on Wednesday. During a recent session before Magistrate Charles Ratakele, Kamikamica’s defense was led by Senior Lawyer Wylie Clarke from Howards Lawyers.

Kamikamica is currently facing serious allegations from the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC), which include one count of perjury and one count of providing false information to a public servant. The charges relate to events that occurred between December 1, 2024, and March 31, 2025. It is alleged that he made a false statement under oath regarding his involvement in the appointment of the FICAC Commissioner and subsequently reiterated this misinformation to the Commissioner of Inquiry.

The scheduled proceedings in the Magistrate’s Court have been postponed, with the next session resuming on January 29 of the upcoming year. This ongoing case serves to underscore the heightened scrutiny that public officials like Kamikamica are subjected to regarding their statements and conduct, emphasizing the importance of accountability in public service. As the case continues to unfold, it reflects broader themes of integrity and transparency within government roles, a crucial aspect of maintaining public trust.
