Flin Flon’s Mayor, George Fontaine, addressed the pressing danger as fierce winds threaten to spread the fire closer to town. He has called for immediate air support to control the crisis, stating that without it, Flin Flon could face severe structural damage.
Public buildings in Winnipeg have been opened up to accommodate evacuees, as local hotels overflow with displaced residents and other travelers. Manitoba has declared a province-wide state of emergency to facilitate a coordinated response to the escalating situation.
