Authorities have identified the suspect involved in a shooting incident that hospitalized an officer in Scottsboro as 29-year-old Daniel Victor McCarn, a resident of Huntsville. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) has issued a Blue Alert, indicating McCarn is armed and dangerous, prompting widespread concerns for public safety.
The incident occurred early Saturday morning when Scottsboro police responded to a report of a domestic violence situation around 12:49 a.m. Upon their arrival, McCarn fled the scene in a vehicle, leading to a police pursuit that culminated in a crash at the intersection of U.S. Highway 72 and County Park Road. After exiting the vehicle, McCarn allegedly fired at officers, resulting in one officer sustaining non-life-threatening injuries before he escaped on foot.
A multi-agency manhunt is actively underway for McCarn, with several law enforcement entities, including the FBI and U.S. Marshals, involved in the search efforts. Residents are advised to avoid the area of U.S. Highway 72 and County Park Road and to contact authorities if they have information regarding McCarn’s whereabouts.
In response to the ongoing situation, multiple local businesses and institutions, including hospitals and schools, have heightened security measures or closed temporarily to ensure the safety of their staff and patrons. Highlands Medical Center announced restricted access to its facilities, while various local businesses have delayed openings, prioritizing community safety above all else.
Despite the seriousness of the circumstances, local businesses like Burrito Jalisco expressed hope to return to normal operations soon, emphasizing their commitment to the community’s well-being.
Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant, and if anyone encounters McCarn, they should not approach him and should call 911 immediately. As the manhunt continues, the situation remains fluid, and updates from ALEA will provide further security guidance for the community.
