Mandhana, Rawal Fire India Toward World Cup Semifinals

Navi Mumbai: India’s Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal showcased exceptional performances during an ICC Women’s World Cup ODI match against New Zealand at DY Patil Stadium, helping India revive its campaign. The match marked a significant moment for the Indian squad as it solidified their place in the semifinals after overcoming a series of defeats.

India’s victory over New Zealand by 53 runs, achieved via the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method, was particularly thrilling. Mandhana and Rawal formed a remarkable partnership, adding 212 runs for the opening wicket while both players reached impressive centuries. Jemimah Rodrigues, who returned to the playing XI and was promoted to the crucial No. 3 spot, contributed significantly with a brisk unbeaten 76 off 55 balls, further strengthening India’s total.

As they head into their final league match against Bangladesh, India is keen to maintain their momentum despite challenges from unpredictable weather, which has already caused five washouts in the tournament. The team hopes to fine-tune their strategies before facing the formidable Australian side in the semifinals.

However, there are concerns surrounding wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh, who sustained a finger injury in the previous match. Bowling coach Aavishkar Salvi confirmed that the team’s medical staff is closely monitoring her fitness.

India aims for a decisive victory against Bangladesh, allowing them to enter the semifinals on a high note and boost their confidence as they prepare for the challenges ahead. With the momentum from their recent win and standout performances, the team remains hopeful and determined to chase their World Cup dreams.
