Manchester Showdown: Who Will Claim the Season’s First Silverware?

Erik ten Hag and Pep Guardiola are set to make a statement as Manchester United faces Manchester City in the Community Shield match scheduled for Saturday at Wembley Stadium. This season-opening clash pits the previous season’s FA Cup champions (Man United) against the reigning Premier League champions (Man City).

Both clubs have been relatively inactive in the transfer market during the summer. Manchester City’s primary signing has been Brazilian winger Savinho from Troyes, while the departure of Julián Álvarez to Atlético Madrid has left their attack compromised. On the other hand, Manchester United has brought in Dutch forward Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna and French teenager Leny Yoro from Lille, though Yoro is expected to be sidelined due to a pre-season foot injury.

The Community Shield match offers the first opportunity for silverware in the new English domestic season.

The game between Manchester United and Manchester City takes place at Wembley on Saturday, August 10, with kickoff set for 3 p.m. BST in the UK, which translates to 10 a.m. ET or 7 a.m. PT in the US and Canada, and 12 midnight AEST in Australia.

For those unable to view the Community Shield locally, using a VPN might be necessary. A VPN helps bypass regional restrictions and prevents internet providers from slowing down your connection, particularly on game day. VPNs are legal where they are permitted, including the US, UK, and Canada, as long as users have a legitimate subscription to the streaming service.

In the US, the Community Shield will be available exclusively on ESPN Plus, starting at 10 a.m. ET (7 a.m. PT) on Saturday.

UK viewers have the advantage of watching the match for free on ITV, which will also stream it online through ITVX. Coverage begins at 2:15 p.m. BST leading up to the kickoff.

In Canada, fans can catch the Community Shield live on Sportsnet. Meanwhile, Australian viewers can stream the match on Optus Sport, which holds the exclusive rights to show all Premier League games live this season. Optus Sport subscriptions start at AU$10 per month for network customers and AU$25 for standalone users.
