Man Utd’s Striker Dilemma: Will Sesko Join the Red Devils?

Steve Nicol has voiced his reservations about Benjamin Sesko potentially joining Manchester United, following reports that the club has initiated contact with RB Leipzig regarding the striker. While formal negotiations are not yet underway, it has been revealed that Manchester United is gauging the financial expectations for the 22-year-old Slovenia international, who is valued between €80 million ($92 million) and €90 million ($103 million) by RB Leipzig.

This hefty price tag might be a hurdle for United, who are reportedly looking to negotiate a lower fee. Additionally, Newcastle United has also shown interest in Sesko, but sources suggest that Manchester United holds an edge in the competition if it comes down to a direct choice between the two clubs.

Manchester United’s interest isn’t limited to Sesko alone; they have also explored the possibility of signing Ollie Watkins from Aston Villa. However, Aston Villa has made it clear that the England forward is not available for transfer this summer, positioning Sesko as a potential alternative for United.

Since joining RB Leipzig from Red Bull Salzburg in 2023, Sesko has made a notable impact, scoring 39 goals in 87 appearances, including 27 goals in two seasons in the Bundesliga. If a young striker like Sesko were to arrive, it could have implications for Rasmus Højlund’s future at United, particularly as Højlund has faced challenges in finding the back of the net since his transfer from Atalanta in 2023, drawing interest from clubs like Napoli and Juventus.

This dynamic situation at Manchester United could potentially reshape their attacking lineup and bring a fresh perspective as they navigate their preseason preparations. The club’s approach reflects a keen interest in bolstering their squad with young talent, which could yield positive results in the future.
