The Franklin Fire that ignited in the Malibu region on Monday night has rapidly spread to almost 4,000 acres as of Wednesday morning. The blaze, located near Pepperdine University, is currently 7% contained.

Evacuation orders have been put in place for several areas, including:

– South of Piuma Road
– North of the Pacific Ocean coastline
– East of Puerco Canyon Road/Corral Canyon Park
– West of Los Flores Canyon Road
– Between the Pacific Ocean coastline and Tuna Canyon Park to the west of Tuna Canyon Road

Additionally, evacuation warnings have been issued for regions east of Trancas Canyon Road, south of Mulholland Highway, and several other specified boundaries.

In response to the fire, Pepperdine University had previously placed students under a shelter-in-place order, which was lifted early Wednesday morning. While the flames remain a concern in the Santa Monica mountains, active fire activity on campus has diminished with ongoing efforts from fire personnel addressing any spot fires.

All schools in the Santa Monica-Malibu School District will be closed until Thursday due to safety concerns.

Roads in the area have also been closed as a precaution, affecting major thoroughfares such as Pacific Coast Highway and various critical intersections.

For those displaced by the fire, a shelter has been set up at the Palisade Recreation Center, and provisions have been made for pets as well. Additionally, separate shelters for small and large animals are available at designated facilities.

While the Franklin Fire poses significant challenges, the community continues to mobilize resources and support for those affected, demonstrating resilience in the face of adversity. It reflects the strength of local emergency services and community organizations that stand ready to assist during such emergencies.

In summary, the situation remains serious but manageable, with evacuation orders in place and community resources mobilized to support those impacted by the wildfire. Efforts to contain the fire are ongoing, and the hope is that conditions will improve soon.
