GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Malibu Norcross, a beloved arcade and go-kart amusement center, will close its doors for the final time today after serving the Gwinnett County community for over two decades.

In a heartfelt statement, the center thanked its patrons, hosts, and guests for contributing to countless cherished memories over the years. “Thank you to our incredible community, hosts, and guests for making Malibu Norcross a place to create timeless memories for more than 20 years!” the announcement read.

Channel 2 Action News has learned that Malibu Norcross, along with Mountasia in Cobb County, was acquired by Herschend Family Entertainment following its purchase of Palace Entertainment in May. Despite the excitement surrounding the acquisition, both entertainment venues will be shutting down just months later. Herschend CEO Andrew Wexler acknowledged the significance of these centers to their communities, emphasizing that the decision was difficult and not a reflection on the quality of experiences provided. “These centers have played an important role in their communities, and we’re incredibly grateful to the hosts who’ve created so many joyful memories for families,” he said.

Wexler noted that the closure stems from a recognition that Family Entertainment Centers differ from the types of attractions Herschend is structured to support.

On its last day of operation, Malibu Norcross will welcome guests from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m., while Mountasia will remain open from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., providing one last opportunity for families to create memories before they close.

This closure marks the end of an era for the community, but the memories created at Malibu Norcross will surely remain with many for years to come.
