Maksim Chmerkovskiy has voiced strong criticism regarding the casting of Jan Ravnik as a professional dancer on the current 34th season of “Dancing With the Stars.” In an episode of his wife Peta Murgatroyd’s podcast, “The Penthouse With Peta,” aired on October 24, Maks expressed his concerns about Ravnik’s qualifications for the role.
Chmerkovskiy stated, “I’m sorry, Jan has absolutely no business being a pro on Dancing with the Stars. There’s zero foundation technique, quality, understanding of the partnership. Bro, I’m getting emotional. It is absurd, and this is unreal how blind we have to be and God forbid say what’s obviously there.” His remarks reflect a deep-seated frustration over what he perceives as a lack of proper technique and understanding in Ravnik’s dancing.
The criticism was further emphasized through Ravnik’s October 21 performance during “Wicked Night,” which Maks felt illustrated his point perfectly. “He had no idea what foxtrot is supposed to look like,” Chmerkovskiy pointed out. “How are you going to expect him to teach it and deliver that message in a format that is completely different from even ballroom dancing?” Maks also expressed concern over whether anyone was providing Jan with constructive feedback regarding his performance.
As the conversation surrounding Ravnik’s participation unfolds, E! News has reached out to both ABC and Ravnik for their comments but has not yet received a response. This incident highlights ongoing debates within the show about the qualifications of its participants and the standards for professional dancers in competitive settings.
