Another summer favorite has faced a recall. Nearly 7,000 pounds of hot dogs have been recalled due to being produced without federal inspection, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).
This follows a recent national recall of certain ice cream products issued by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
AW Farms, based in Argillite, Kentucky, recalled the hot dogs after discovering that they had not undergone federal inspection. The hot dogs were produced from May 30 onward and distributed to restaurants and hotels in Ohio and West Virginia.
The recalled hot dog products include:
10-lb boxes with two 5-lb vacuum-packed packages containing “FRENCH CITY FOODS 6” 12-1 HOTDOGS”
10-lb boxes with two 5-lb vacuum-packed packages containing frozen “PORK, BEEF, DEXTROSE, SALT, SUGAR MAPLE GEO BROWN ALL MEAT HOTDOGS”
10-lb boxes with two 5-lb vacuum-packed packages containing frozen “GEO BROWN ALL BEEF HOTDOGS”
A state public health partner informed the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), the federal agency responsible for inspecting all commercially sold meat, about the recalled products. An investigation confirmed that the hot dogs were produced and distributed without federal inspection.
There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions from consuming these hot dogs. However, the USDA advises anyone concerned about their health after consuming the recalled hot dogs to contact a healthcare provider.
The USDA also urges businesses with the recalled products to refrain from serving them and to either discard them or return them.
