In a significant crackdown on gun crimes, the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) has successfully seized six firearms and ten 9mm rounds of ammunition during an operation in Kingston 20. The operation occurred on Friday at approximately 7:14 P.M. when investigators from the Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division (FNID) intercepted a motor vehicle and discovered the illegal items concealed inside.

A taxi operator from Duhaney Park, Kingston 20, was arrested in connection with this incident, with his identity being withheld as investigations are ongoing. This operation highlights the relentless efforts made by the FNID to combat gun-related offenses; in the past three weeks alone, they have seized a total of 276 prohibited firearms.

Since the commencement of 2025, the FNID has seized a staggering 413 prohibited weapons, which represents 58% of the total 713 firearms confiscated by the police this year. Notably, this year’s seizures already account for 86% of the total guns confiscated throughout 2024, a year that saw 833 weapons removed from circulation by law enforcement agencies.

Acting Senior Superintendent of Police Patrae Rowe, who directs the FNID, underscored the significance of these seizures, stating they are a direct result of vigilant and strategic policing efforts aimed at reducing crime and enhancing public safety. He further noted that firearms are the primary tools used in violent crimes across the island.

The police continue to stress the importance of community involvement in their fight against illegal firearms. Citizens are encouraged to report any information concerning illegal weapons by contacting FNID at 876-923-6184, the National Intelligence Bureau at 811, Crime Stop at 311, or their nearest police station.

This initiative serves as a hopeful reminder of the ongoing commitment to improving safety and security for all citizens, as the enforcement agencies work diligently to minimize the threat posed by illegal firearms in communities.
