Patrick Keleher, known for his role as Seth Ridley on ABC’s procedural drama “The Rookie,” has confirmed that his character will not return for season 8. In an interview, Keleher stated, “I am done in season 7,” although he remains uncertain about any potential future appearances in the series.

Throughout season 7, Seth experienced a tumultuous journey. His character faced a suspension from the LAPD after Officer Lucy Chen raised doubts regarding his cancer diagnosis, which he refused to verify with a blood test. Despite this setback, Seth managed to return to the show after winning a lawsuit to regain his job. Notably, he redeemed himself in a tense scenario by saving fellow officer John Nolan while sustaining a severe leg injury that ultimately resulted in amputation.

As Keleher pondered the implications of his character’s injury, he reflected on how being an amputee might affect Seth’s role as a police officer, mentioning a conversation with a retired LAPD officer who remarked, “Yeah, man. You lose a leg, you’re out.” Nevertheless, Keleher remarked on the unpredictability of the show’s direction, emphasizing that viewers may still be surprised by Seth’s path.

During pivotal moments in the season, Seth confronted his deceit about the cancer, admitting his cowardice and, ultimately, leading to the end of his engagement to Tamara Collins. This revelation underscored a deeper narrative element, as Keleher explained that creator Alexi Hawley suggested Seth’s lies may stem from his struggles with class disparities.

The season 7 finale of “The Rookie” is scheduled to air on May 13, and the show has been renewed for an eighth season, promising new developments and challenges for its characters. The series continues to captivate audiences, airing Tuesday nights at 9 p.m. ET, with episodes available for streaming on Hulu the following day.

As fans await the finale, Keleher’s portrayal of Seth has sparked discussions about authenticity, redemption, and the complexities of the characters’ lives within the LAPD dynamic.
