Sixteen-year-old Maika Dau has made history by becoming the youngest professional footballer in Fiji after officially signing with Bula FC for the first season of the 2026 OFC Professional League. This remarkable achievement follows his recent experience as the captain of Fiji’s team at the 2025 FIFA U-17 World Cup held in Qatar, where he showcased his talent on a grand international stage.

Dau’s passion for football ignited in his early childhood, thanks to his father, Lorima Dau, a former midfielder for Rewa. He began his football journey in kindergarten, frequently attending district training sessions with his father, which laid a strong foundation for his skills. By the time he reached year nine, he was already playing for Nasinu’s U-19 team, rapidly advancing to earn a spot on the Fiji U-15 squad.

His career trajectory continued to ascend quickly; just a year later, he joined Nasinu’s senior district side while simultaneously representing Fiji at the U-16 level. His leadership skills were further highlighted when he captained Fiji at the OFC U-16 Men’s Championship, where his exceptional performances were crucial in securing the team’s qualification for the FIFA U-17 World Cup.

Maika Dau’s promising future in football serves as an inspiration, proving that dedication and talent can lead to significant achievements at a young age. His journey not only reflects his personal commitment but also signifies hope for the future of Fijian football on the international scene.
