Mahomes Motivated by Madden Snub: A Comeback in the Making?

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – In a surprising turn of events, Patrick Mahomes has not secured the top spot in EA Sports’ quarterback rankings for the latest installment of Madden NFL 26. With an overall rating of 95, Mahomes finds himself ranked below not only Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills and Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens, both of whom received a perfect 99, but also Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow, who has a rating of 97.

When asked about this rating, Mahomes displayed his competitive spirit. “I like playing Madden, so I would like to be rated higher,” he remarked, highlighting his determination to prove his worth on the field, especially following a dip in passing yards during the previous season. “I believe if I go out there and play the football that I want to play, we can get to 99 (overall) pretty quickly.”

Throughout his career, Mahomes has demonstrated an ability to channel perceived slights into motivation. An example includes his memorable moment in 2019 when he counted to 10 after scoring against the Chicago Bears, a team that selected Mitchell Trubisky over him in the 2017 draft.

His trainer, Bobby Stroupe, added fuel to the fire with a social media post implying that these Madden ratings could serve as inspiration for a strong comeback in the upcoming season. “‘They rated you 95, again,’” Stroupe tweeted, hinting at a potential revenge narrative for Mahomes in 2025.

The Kansas City Chiefs are set to take the field on Saturday for their preseason opener against the Arizona Cardinals, kicking off at 7 p.m. CT, providing Mahomes an early opportunity to demonstrate his elite talents and potentially silence any doubters.

This season presents yet another chance for Mahomes to reclaim his status as one of the top quarterbacks in football, and fans are eagerly anticipating how he will respond to the challenge.
