Madrid’s Penalty Power: A Turning Point Against Sociedad

Real Madrid secured a 2-0 victory over Real Sociedad at the Reale Arena, thanks to second-half penalties converted by Vinícius Júnior and Kylian Mbappé. This win helped to alleviate the team’s earlier struggles under coach Carlo Ancelotti.

The match began with both teams showing intensity, and Real Sociedad created the first real threat in the second minute, when Sergio Gómez’s free kick was expertly saved by Thibaut Courtois, resulting in a corner kick. Real Madrid quickly responded with a shot from Mbappé, though it was blocked effectively by Nayef Aguerd.

The first 15 minutes saw Sociedad dominate, albeit without clear scoring opportunities. As the game progressed, Real Madrid found their footing, with Mbappé consistently troubling goalkeeper Álex Remiro.

Real Sociedad pressed hard, and Luka Sucic came close to scoring with a powerful strike that hit the crossbar. Real Madrid weathered the storm, defending well against two consecutive shots from Sucic and Takefusa Kubo.

The second half resumed with Sociedad continuing to press, and just 20 seconds in, Sucic hit the post again. However, the match shifted when Arda Güler won a penalty after a handball by Sergio Gómez. Vinícius Júnior converted the penalty, despite Remiro’s near-save.

Sociedad did not back down, with Aguerd attempting two headers that flew over the bar. The situation intensified when VAR prompted the referee to check for a possible penalty on Vinícius. The referee awarded the penalty for a foul on him, which Mbappé successfully converted for Madrid’s second goal.

At this stage, the match lost its competitive edge, and Real Madrid maintained control until the final whistle. With this victory, they remain just one point behind league leaders, while Real Sociedad finds themselves in 16th place.
