Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade Returns to New York City for 99th Celebration

The iconic Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is set to take place in New York City, kicking off a cherished holiday tradition that has captivated audiences for nearly a century. As it approaches its 99th celebration, this beloved spectacle continues to draw millions of spectators both on the streets and on television screens across the nation.

Jen Neal, Executive Vice President of Live Events and Specials at NBCUniversal Entertainment, expressed excitement for the upcoming event, stating, “The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade brings families together like nothing else on television and remains a beloved tradition for millions.” She highlighted the longstanding partnership with Macy’s, promising viewers a memorable experience filled with joy and entertainment.

The parade, known for its whimsical floats, exciting performances, and giant balloons, has a storied history since its inception in 1924. It has only been canceled three times — during World War II — and draws around 3.5 million attendees on the ground, with over 50 million more watching through national broadcasts. The next significant milestone will be the 100th parade in 2026.

The parade’s official route spans 2.5 miles, beginning at 77th Street and Central Park West, marching south to 34th Street at Herald Square. Attendees are advised to avoid certain areas on 6th Avenue to ensure the best viewing experience.

This year’s performers include an impressive lineup featuring artists such as Drew Baldridge, Colbie Caillat, Gavin DeGraw, and many more. In addition, guests will enjoy special appearances by Olympians and stars like Nikki DeLoach and Sean Evans. Broadway will also be well-represented, with performances from shows like Buena Vista Social Club and a salute to the Radio City Rockettes, who celebrate their 100th anniversary.

The parade will commence on November 27, 2025, starting at 8:30 AM and will be broadcast live on NBC and Peacock. For those looking forward to the event, a special primetime countdown celebration will air on November 26 at 8 PM, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the preparations.

Moreover, the tradition continues with the Balloon Inflation Celebration, allowing onlookers to witness the inflation of balloons on Thanksgiving Eve, an exciting experience for many families.

As the parade approaches, various fun facts highlight the effort that goes into its production, including the massive amounts of paint and glitter used, the engineering behind the floats, and the evolution of the balloon designs.

This year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade holds the promise of continuing its legacy as a pivotal part of American holiday culture, bringing communities and families together in celebration and joy. With aspirations for a spectacular show ahead, it stands as a reminder of the magic and connection that the holiday season can inspire.
