Macuata Women’s Rugby Sets Sights on Marama Competition After Tough Final

The Macuata women’s rugby team has concluded a noteworthy season, culminating in a hard-fought match in the final of the Royal Tea Ranadi Cup at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka on Saturday. Facing off against a strong Ba team, they ended the match with a score of 47-30. Despite the defeat, head coach Motu Lalagavesi commended her team’s unwavering determination and resilience, highlighting that simply reaching the final was a significant achievement in itself.

Reflecting on the season’s journey, Lalagavesi noted both the victories and challenges, emphasizing the valuable lessons learned and the areas where the team needs to grow following the final. “This was a learning curve for the team. Ba tested us thoroughly, and while there are aspects we need to improve on, I am immensely proud of the girls for their unwavering commitment throughout the competition,” she stated.

Lalagavesi acknowledged the limitations posed by training facilities, underlining the necessity for improvements in training methodologies, including the integration of gym work to bolster the team’s preparation for future contests. Looking ahead, she excitedly announced that the team has qualified for the esteemed Marama competition next year, marking a significant milestone for the squad.

“It is a proud moment for the team as we have also qualified for the Marama competition next year,” Lalagavesi said. “We understand that it won’t be an easy challenge, but we are determined to be fit and prepared for it.”

She expressed her gratitude to the fans and supporters who have stood by the team all season, along with the management for their ongoing encouragement. The resilience and commitment shown by the Macuata women’s rugby team not only highlight their growth potential but also instill hope for their future performance as they prepare for the next season and upcoming competitions.
