Macuata Women’s Rugby Eyes Marama Challenge After Ranadi Cup Final

The Macuata women’s rugby team has had a remarkable journey this season, culminating in a challenging match in the final of the Royal Tea Ranadi Cup at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka on Saturday. They faced a fierce opponent, Ba, ultimately losing the match 47-30. Despite this setback, head coach Motu Lalagavesi praised her team’s determination and resilience, noting that reaching the final itself was a significant achievement.

Lalagavesi reflected on the highs and lows of the season, emphasizing the lessons learned and areas for improvement identified during the final. “This was a learning curve for the team. Ba gave us a real test, and while we fell short in a few areas, I’m grateful to the girls for their 100 percent effort throughout the competition,” she explained.

Acknowledging the challenges posed by limited training facilities, Lalagavesi expressed the need for enhancements in training methods and the incorporation of gym work to better prepare the team for future competitions. Looking ahead, she shared that the team has secured a spot in the prestigious Marama competition next year, which is a notable accomplishment for the squad.

“It is a proud moment for the team as we have also qualified for the Marama competition next year,” said Lalagavesi. “We know it won’t be an easy competition, but we must be fit and ready for it.”

She extended her gratitude to the fans and supporters who have been with the team throughout the season, as well as the management for their continued support. The commitment displayed by the Macuata women’s rugby team highlights their potential for growth and success in upcoming competitions, instilling hope for their performance and development as they march forward into next season.
