The Washington Commanders had also expressed interest in interviewing him before deciding to promote David Blough to their offensive coordinator role earlier this month.
Wells has a solid background in coaching, having spent eight seasons with the New York Giants prior to joining the Cowboys in 2020. His prior coaching experience also includes a stint at LSU, where he developed a strong reputation in the college football ranks before ascending to the NFL.
