Luke Wilson has joined the cast of Netflix’s untitled golf comedy series, starring alongside Will Ferrell. In this new venture, Wilson will portray a professional golfer who has bested Ferrell’s character in the tour championship on two separate occasions. Interestingly, Luke’s older brother, Owen Wilson, is currently in a similar role, starring as a former pro golfer in the Apple TV+ series Stick.

Will Ferrell takes on the role of a fictional golfing legend in the Netflix series, accompanied by notable co-stars Molly Shannon, Jimmy Tatro, and Fortune Feimster. This project signifies Ferrell’s debut in a TV comedy series, excluding his iconic tenure on Saturday Night Live. The show is a reunion of sorts for Ferrell and Shannon, both alumni of SNL.

The 10-episode series is produced by Ferrell’s Gloria Sanchez Productions, with production heavyweights like Jessica Elbaum, Alix Taylor, Rian Johnson, and Ram Bergman on board. Notably, the series has seen some shifts in its creative team, as Ramy Youssef and Josh Rabinowitz, originally tied to the project, have departed due to creative differences.

Meanwhile, Owen Wilson’s Stick has been greenlit for a second season, although it hasn’t quite struck the right chord with the golfing community, despite generally favorable reviews, including from The Hollywood Reporter. The series faced some criticism for factual inaccuracies regarding golf, diminishing its appeal to those familiar with the sport.

The addition of Luke Wilson to the Netflix series adds a layer of familial competition, given Owen’s involvement in a similarly themed show. By all accounts, Luke appears to be more seasoned in the sport, unlike Owen, who learned golfing specifically for his role in Stick. This dynamic only adds to the anticipation surrounding both projects as they develop their respective narratives in the realm of comedy and golf.
