Los Angeles Lakers guard Luka Dončić will miss at least a week of action early in the 2025-26 season due to a left finger sprain and a contusion on his lower left leg, the team announced on October 26. This marks an unfortunate setback for the five-time NBA All-Star, who has been in phenomenal form to kick off the season.
In his first two games, Dončić displayed his scoring prowess, netting 43 points during the Lakers’ season opener against the Golden State Warriors, followed by an impressive 49-point performance in a win over the Minnesota Timberwolves. His staggering total of 92 points over these two games has set a new franchise record, surpassing the previous mark held by Lakers legend Jerry West for 56 years.
Beyond his scoring, Dončić contributed significantly in other areas, averaging 11.5 rebounds and 8.5 assists per game while maintaining an impressive shooting percentage of 62%.
In addition to Dončić, the Lakers are facing other challenges early in the season, as superstar LeBron James has also missed the first two games and is expected to be sidelined until mid-November due to sciatica. This means the Lakers will need to navigate through the initial stretch of the season without two of their leading players.
Dončić joined the Lakers in a high-profile trade from the Dallas Mavericks last February, and his contributions have been invaluable to the team. Despite the obstacles, Lakers fans remain hopeful for a quick recovery and an impactful return from both Dončić and James, as they seek to make a deep run in the playoffs this season.
