The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has rolled out a new Payment Plan initiative that enables motorists to responsibly manage and pay long-standing traffic infringement fines through structured repayment options. Starting January 23, 2026, this initiative aims to target unpaid Traffic Infringement Notices issued between 2017 and 2022, addressing issues related to enforcement challenges and administrative backlogs that have arisen due to these outstanding fines.

Irimaia Rokosawa, the Chief Executive of LTA, emphasized that this payment plan offers a viable solution for compliance while alleviating financial burdens for eligible motorists. To qualify for this repayment arrangement, drivers must first settle all fines issued after January 1, 2023. The agreement will specifically cover fines listed in the signed contract, with all other fines needing to be paid separately.

Rokosawa cautioned that not adhering to the scheduled repayment plan could lead to the cancellation of the agreement, emphasizing the importance of following through to maintain compliance. The LTA anticipates that the initiative will not only reduce the number of unrecovered penalties but also enhance enforcement efficiency and increase governmental revenue. The funds generated from this initiative will be directed toward enhancing road safety programs and improving transport services, reflecting a commitment to fostering a safer driving environment for all.

This new framework offers hope for those struggling with past fines, creating a manageable pathway to settlement and contributing positively to the broader transport ecosystem.
