The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has introduced a new Payment Plan initiative designed to help motorists manage and settle long-standing traffic infringement fines through structured repayment options. Effective from January 23, 2026, this initiative specifically targets unpaid Traffic Infringement Notices issued between 2017 and 2022, addressing challenges related to enforcement and administrative backlogs caused by these outstanding fines.
Irimaia Rokosawa, the Chief Executive of LTA, highlighted that this payment plan serves as a practical solution for motorists looking to comply with their obligations while lessening financial strain. To be eligible for this repayment plan, drivers must first pay off all fines received after January 1, 2023. The agreement will cover only the fines specified in the signed contract, requiring all other fines to be settled separately.
Rokosawa warned that failure to adhere to the payment schedule could result in the cancellation of the agreement, underscoring the necessity of maintaining compliance. The LTA believes this initiative will decrease the number of unpaid penalties while improving enforcement efficiency and boosting government revenue. Proceeds from this program will be allocated to enhancing road safety initiatives and upgrading transportation services, reflecting a commitment to a safer driving environment for everyone.
This new plan offers a promising opportunity for those burdened by previous fines, creating a manageable path toward resolution and contributing positively to the overall transport framework. The initiative not only aims to foster compliance but also supports wider safety objectives that benefit the entire community.
