The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has issued a warning to the public regarding individuals impersonating LTA officials and soliciting payments for services such as permits and driver’s licenses. This advisory follows a social media report from a woman who claimed to have been approached by someone posing as an LTA officer, offering to facilitate these services in exchange for money.
LTA Chief Executive Officer Irimaia Rokosawa stressed the seriousness of these incidents, stating that all LTA services should be accessed solely through official channels. He made it clear that payments and transactions must occur exclusively within approved LTA systems; any dealings outside of LTA offices are deemed illegal. Furthermore, Rokosawa cautioned the public that the LTA would not accept responsibility for losses incurred from unauthorized transactions.
To prevent such fraudulent activities, he strongly encouraged individuals who encounter impostors to report the issue to the Fiji Police Force Cyber Crime Unit without delay. Additionally, to verify information, Rokosawa recommended that the public either visit their nearest LTA office or utilize the official communication platforms provided by the LTA.
The LTA is committed to working alongside relevant authorities to maintain the integrity of its operations and to protect citizens from fraud and deception, thereby fostering a safer environment for all.
