Kyren Lacy, a wide receiver for Louisiana State University (LSU) and a promising NFL Draft prospect, is currently wanted by the Louisiana State Police on multiple charges, including negligent homicide and felony hit-and-run, following a tragic accident that occurred on December 17. The crash resulted in the death of 78-year-old Herman Hall.
According to authorities, Lacy was allegedly operating a 2023 Dodge Charger recklessly on Louisiana State Highway 20 at around noon, traveling at high speeds and illegally passing vehicles in a designated No-Passing Zone. In the chaotic moments of the incident, a pickup truck attempted to avoid a collision with Lacy, which caused a chain reaction leading to a head-on collision with another vehicle, a 2017 Kia Sorento, that resulted in Hall suffering severe injuries. Despite the incident, Lacy reportedly fled the scene without providing assistance or notifying emergency services.
An arrest warrant has been issued for Lacy, who was identified as the driver responsible for the crash. Although Lacy transferred to LSU in 2022 and had just announced his intention to declare for the NFL Draft on December 19—a mere two days after the crash—his circumstances have drastically changed.
Currently, Louisiana State Police are in discussions with Lacy and his legal representation regarding his surrender.
This incident is a stark reminder of the consequences of reckless driving and the legal ramifications that can arise from such behavior. It underscores the necessity for drivers to act responsibly on the road, highlighting the potential impact of their actions not only on themselves but also on others.
In light of these events, there remains a hope that Lacy will take responsibility for his actions and that the legal process will address the gravity of this situation. The focus now shifts to the families affected and the community’s effort to heal from this tragic loss.
